Tragedy in Obuasi: Prison Officer “Biggie” Found Dead in Pompo River

The Obuasi East Municipality has been thrown into a state of shock and mourning following the mysterious death of a young and vibrant prison officer, Constable Clement Tei Gyabah, popularly known in the community as “Biggie.” His lifeless body was discovered in the Pompo River, located in Pomposo, a suburb within the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region.
Constable Gyabah, believed to be in his late thirties, was a serving officer with the Ghana Prisons Service under the Obuasi Command. According to residents, the officer was well-known, friendly, and often interacted with the community, earning him the affectionate nickname “Biggie.”
Eyewitnesses and residents of Pomposo woke up on Wednesday morning to the harrowing news that the body of the officer had been spotted in the Pompo River under strange circumstances. His remains were later retrieved by a joint team of police and local volunteers.
Preliminary information gathered from community sources indicates that the officer was last seen the previous night but did not return home, raising concerns among friends and neighbors. It remains unclear what led to his drowning, and whether foul play is involved. The police have since launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of death.
A statement issued by the Ghana Prisons Service in Obuasi described the late officer as “dedicated, respectful, and a loyal servant of the state.” The command expressed its deepest condolences to his family, colleagues, and the entire Pomposo community.
Meanwhile, the body has been deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital morgue for autopsy and further examination as police continue their investigations. Family members, friends, and colleagues have begun mourning the tragic loss of a man many described as humble, hardworking, and committed to his duty.
