Tragedy in Edwenase: 37-Year-Old Nurse Found Dead in Suspected Suicide

A wave of sorrow has swept through the community of Edwenase in the Ashanti Region following the suspected suicide of a 37-year-old nurse at the Kokofu Government Hospital. The nurse, identified as Akosua Adutwuwaa, was found dead in her home on Sunday morning under deeply tragic circumstances.

According to her mother, the late Akosua began her day as usual—rising early, tending to household chores, and preparing porridge for her only child, a two-year-old daughter. The morning routine, by all accounts, showed no sign of distress or anything unusual. As the family prepared for church between 7 and 8 a.m., they noticed Akosua was missing. A frantic search around the house and neighborhood ensued, but it ended in heartbreak when she was discovered lifeless in one of the rooms, hanging from a ceiling fan with a white rope around her neck.

The horrifying discovery has left her family and the entire Edwenase community in shock. Residents, who described Akosua as quiet, hardworking, and devoted to her child and profession, are struggling to come to terms with the loss. It is reportedly the first time such a tragic incident has occurred in the area, further intensifying the community’s grief and disbelief.

Her body has since been conveyed to the Pramso Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted under the supervision of the Ashanti South Regional Police Command. Investigators are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding her death, including any underlying issues that may have contributed to her decision.

The management of Kokofu Government Hospital has expressed their sorrow over the incident, describing the late nurse as a dedicated health professional who served with compassion and diligence. Hospital authorities have also indicated their intention to provide psychological support to staff members as they come to terms with the tragic loss of their colleague.

Meanwhile, friends and loved ones have begun flooding social media with tributes and messages of support for her grieving family, especially her young daughter who now faces life without her mother.

This incident has reignited conversations around mental health in the health sector, especially the emotional toll and silent battles healthcare professionals may face. Many are calling for stronger support systems, mental health awareness, and interventions to prevent such tragedies in the future.

As investigations continue, the community of Edwenase mourns not just a nurse, but a mother, daughter, and beloved member of the society whose sudden departure leaves behind pain and unanswered questions.
