Safe-Child Advocacy Celebrates 20 Years of Transforming Lives of Vulnerable Children

Safe-Child Advocacy, a non-governmental organization under the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi and managed by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, has proudly marked its 20th anniversary with a celebration held at St. Peter’s Basilica in Kumasi.
Established in 2005 through the vision of Emeritus Archbishop Peter Akwasi Sarpong, with Archbishop Gabriel Justice Yaw Anokye as the legal owner, the organization has become a beacon of hope for children, youth, and women in vulnerable circumstances—particularly those living on the streets.
For the past two decades, Safe-Child Advocacy has been at the forefront of child protection and empowerment in the Ashanti Region and beyond. Its interventions have ranged from providing formal education and vocational training to advocacy and holistic rehabilitation programs. These initiatives are designed to reintegrate street children and vulnerable young women into society, equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to secure meaningful and independent futures.

Speaking at the anniversary, leaders of the organization emphasized the importance of protecting children’s rights and creating a society where every child is given the opportunity to thrive. They highlighted the countless success stories of children who, once abandoned or at risk, are now excelling in education, business, and community leadership thanks to the support of Safe-Child Advocacy.
The celebration also featured a special webinar themed “Celebrating 20 Years of Impacts,” which provided a platform for reflection on the organization’s journey and its achievements over the years. Participants included clergy, child rights activists, development partners, alumni beneficiaries, and members of the general public. The discussions underscored the importance of collaboration in tackling the challenges faced by children in vulnerable situations.

In his message, Archbishop Gabriel Justice Yaw Anokye commended the tireless efforts of the Daughters of Charity and all staff of Safe-Child Advocacy for their unwavering commitment to the mission. He urged partners and stakeholders to continue supporting the initiative, noting that safeguarding the rights of children is a collective responsibility.
The anniversary milestone not only celebrates past successes but also sets the tone for the future. Safe-Child Advocacy has reaffirmed its vision of building a society where no child is left behind and where vulnerable women and youth are empowered to achieve self-reliance. The organization extended an open invitation to partners, collaborators, and the general public to join hands in sustaining its mission and creating a legacy of care and empowerment.

Over the past 20 years, Safe-Child Advocacy has touched thousands of lives, transforming despair into hope, and vulnerability into strength. As it looks to the future, the organization remains steadfast in its mission to protect children, nurture their potential, and shape a better Ghanaian society for generations to come.
