St. Louis College of Education and Sabre Education Commission Early Grade Resource Centre to Enhance Teaching and Learning

In a strategic effort to improve the quality of early childhood education in Ghana, St. Louis College of Education, in collaboration with Sabre Education, a non-governmental organization, has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art Early Grade Resource Centre at Mbrom in the Ashanti Region.

The newly inaugurated facility is designed to serve as a dynamic learning hub to equip student-teachers with the skills, tools, and resources necessary to transform early-grade teaching and learning practices across the country. The centre comes fully stocked with an initial supply of teaching and learning materials, complemented by multimedia equipment and advanced educational technology.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr. James Kofi Ayando, Director of Programs at Sabre Education, highlighted the organization’s commitment to strengthening early childhood education in Ghana. He emphasized that early-grade education remains a top priority for Sabre, and the establishment of the resource centre is a key step toward nurturing competent and innovative early-grade teachers.

“This centre is a crucial investment in the future of our education system. It is a space where student-teachers can innovate, share ideas, and enhance their teaching techniques through play-based learning,” Mr. Ayando stated. “It aligns perfectly with our long-term vision to support early-grade teacher training across the country.”

Mr. Ayando also urged the management of the college to adopt a strong maintenance culture to ensure the facility’s durability and long-term impact.

The Principal of St. Louis College of Education, Mrs. Monica Konnei Mensah, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Sabre Education for its immense support and dedication to the advancement of teacher education in Ghana. According to her, the resource centre is not just a physical structure, but a beacon of hope and a powerful tool for academic and personal development.

“This facility will inspire, guide, and empower our student-teachers to achieve excellence. It is a place for continuous professional development where faculty members can refine their methodologies and remain abreast of modern teaching strategies,” she said.

Mrs. Mensah further stated that the impact of the Early Grade Resource Centre would go beyond the walls of the college, benefiting schools and communities as trained student-teachers apply their enhanced knowledge in classrooms across the region.

She also used the occasion to appeal to the government to support the college with additional infrastructure, pointing out that inadequate space remains one of the major challenges confronting the institution.

“The commitment shown by Sabre Education should serve as a call to action for other stakeholders, especially the government, to invest in infrastructure that supports quality teacher education,” she added.

Mrs. Mensah also commended the staff and student-teachers of the college for their dedication and encouraged them to embrace the opportunities the resource centre presents.

The commissioning of the Early Grade Resource Centre marks a significant milestone in the journey toward improving the foundation of Ghana’s education system and is expected to serve as a model for similar initiatives in other colleges of education across the country.
