Seven Nigerians allegedly arrested for cybercrime in Ghana

Seven Nigerians have been detained by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) on suspicion of participating in cybercrime operations in Ghana.

The accused were apprehended on September 26, 2022, when the EOCO conducted a home invasion based on information and entered Manhean, Obeyeyie in the Greater Accra Region.

According to Ghanaweb, the anti-crime agency said in a statement that the operation also resulted in the rescue of no less than 21 people who were allegedly being trafficked from Nigeria.

At the conclusion of the operation, 28 Nigerians who were allegedly involved in illegal cyber activity were detained. 21 of the individuals were found to be victims of human trafficking from Nigeria to Ghana after our first examination, according to the official release.

The seven accused are scheduled to return to court on October 17 after being detained by an Accra Circuit Court while investigations are proceeding.

A 24-count accusation against the individuals includes allegations of assault, human trafficking, and other organized crimes.
