Parents’ Association Donates 200 Desks, Wheelbarrows, and Mowers to Osei Kyeretwie SHS

In a bid to address pressing logistical needs at Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) in Kumasi, the Parents’ Association has donated 200 mono desks, two sets of mowers, and six wheelbarrows to the school at a total cost of GH¢60,000. The donation, made on Friday, 15th November 2024, is part of the association’s commitment to enhancing the school’s academic and domestic environment.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Chairman of the association, Michael Asante, emphasized the importance of providing students with a conducive learning environment to foster academic excellence. “The shortage of desks was a major concern, and we deemed it necessary to intervene. We will continue to work closely with the school management to identify and address such needs,” he stated. He also urged parents to prioritize their children’s education by supporting the association’s initiatives.

The Headmaster of OKESS, Michael Mensah, expressed profound gratitude for the donation, describing it as a timely intervention. He noted that the new desks would alleviate the long-standing challenge of inadequate seating, which often disrupted academic activities. “Students will no longer have to share seats or perch on desks during lessons. Additionally, the mowers will make the work of our school labourers much easier,” he remarked.

Mr. Mensah acknowledged a recent supply of 250 desks from the government but highlighted that the growing student population still necessitated more resources. He assured the Parents’ Association of the school’s commitment to maintaining the donated items. “We will ensure proper care of the desks and equipment to maximize their lifespan,” he added.

The school’s Senior Prefects also lauded the Parents’ Association for their generosity, recounting the struggles students faced due to the desk shortage. “The desk deficit was so severe that some students had to arrive in class very early just to secure a seat. This donation will bring a significant relief,” they said. They pledged to lead by example in ensuring the proper use and care of the desks.

The gesture by the Parents’ Association reflects a broader commitment to supporting the development of the school. It is anticipated that this intervention will positively impact both the academic performance and morale of the students.

Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School, one of Kumasi’s premier institutions, continues to grow in student numbers, necessitating collective efforts from stakeholders to address its logistical challenges and sustain its legacy of excellence.
