A POLICE swoop at some known ghettos Friday morning at Offinso in the Ashanti Region, led to the arrest of eleven suspected ‘Wee’ peddlers and smokers.
The operation at Offinso Sakam, Amoawi and Samproso, respectively, led to the seizure of quantities of some dried leaves suspected to be ‘Wee’.
The nabbed suspects included Sulley Ali, 41; Ahmed Zakari, 26; Eric Acheampong, 24; Sampson Adu, 35; Agyemang Duah, 20; and Paul Antwi, aged 22.
The remaining suspects are Owusu Frederick, 23; Clement Antwi, 22; Emmanuel Awuah, 23; Barnie Benjamin, 17; and Kwabena Sarpong, who is said to be 25 years old.
A police document sighted by the DAILY GUIDE said the Offinso police embarked on the operation between 7am to 9am.
“Police embarked on a swoop at certain locations within the district where suspected drug peddlers and criminals hide to use narcotic drugs and also plan their nefarious activities,” the report said.
The report said the exercise proved successful with eleven suspects arrested at the ghettos.
“Police conducted search and retrieved a quantity of dried plant materials, 137 cement paper wrappers of dried planet materials, all suspected to be cannabis (wee) and a knife concealed in two polythene bags from the ghettos.”
The report continued that all the suspects have been detained as efforts are being made to screen and process those who are found culpable to court. The exhibits would also be sent to laboratory for testing.
“Suspects will be thoroughly screened and those found culpable arraigned before court, whilst the innocent ones will be profiled and released on police enquiry bail.
“Exhibits dried plant materials will also be sent to the Forensic Laboratory, Accra, for examination and report,” the police document concluded.
