Due to the high rate of armed robbers in our communities, civilians have decided to put the law in their hands by dealing with the robbers in their own way without reporting the case to the police. Robbers are causing massive stir in the communities and civilians have also become extra vigilant to the extend of serving justice to the robbers whenever they are being caught.
However, a thief was caught stealing roofing sheets at Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region. The residents of Amasaman tied the robber’s hand and leg with a rope to prevent him from escaping and also stripped off his cloth, leaving only the singlet on his body. After the robber was tied and the cloth was also stripped off, the residents started beating him mercilessly. The robber begged for mercy but the residents rejected his apologies and continued beating him until he became weak.
The residents failed to hand the robber to the police because they wanted to teach him a lesson so that it will serve as a deterrent to the other robbers.
