Odotobri MP Showers Praise on AngloGold Ashanti for Life-Changing Projects, Assures Rapid Response to Community Concerns

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Odotobri Constituency, Hon. Lawyer Emmanuel Anthony Mmieh, has commended AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) for their unwavering support in addressing critical development challenges within the constituency. The MP described the mining company’s initiatives as “life-changing,” highlighting their impact on healthcare, sanitation, water access, and community infrastructure.

Speaking during a community inspection tour at Aketechieso, Hon. Mmieh said AGA’s efforts are a powerful example of how the private sector can work hand-in-hand with government to bring meaningful progress to underserved communities.

According to the MP, AngloGold Ashanti has demonstrated exceptional corporate responsibility by initiating and completing projects with their own funds, without depending on external support.

“They are delivering results—not just promises,” Hon. Mmieh emphasized. “From sanitation to healthcare and water, AGA has invested directly in the lives of our people. As their MP, I deeply appreciate their effort.”

One of the most pressing concerns raised by residents was the lack of accommodation and security for nurses stationed at the Aketechieso CHPS Compound. Hon. Mmieh disclosed that AngloGold Ashanti has already begun planning the construction of a permanent residential facility for the health staff.

“Our nurses deserve to feel safe and have a decent place to rest,” he said. “I am happy to report that AGA is stepping in to make that a reality, and work will soon commence.”

Community Fund Building to Be Rescued

The MP also visited the Aketechieso Community Fund Building, which has developed structural defects over time. He assured residents that urgent measures are being taken to restore the building to its former state.

“We’ve seen the cracks and issues firsthand,” he noted. “I’ve taken it upon myself to collaborate with AGA and relevant stakeholders to secure funding and repair this facility without delay.”

Hon. Mmieh further commended AGA for constructing an ultramodern toilet and borehole for the Odotobri community. He noted that access to clean water and sanitation is a human right, and such interventions are essential to public health.

“These are not just projects—they are lifelines,” he said. “I urge all residents to maintain them properly so they serve us well for years to come.”

As part of the tour, the MP also inspected dilapidated weighing center constructed 7–8 years ago, which has fallen into disrepair. He highlighted plans to carry out extensive renovation works including electrical rewiring, plastering, painting, and landscaping.

“This center has the potential to support healthcare and nutrition programs,” he said. “We’re going to restore it to full functionality very soon.”

Hon. Mmieh reaffirmed his commitment to fostering partnerships with AngloGold Ashanti and other development actors, adding that the company’s 2025 development blueprint offers significant opportunities for Odotobri.

“AGA’s 2025 development plan is bold and inspiring,” he remarked. “As MP, I will continue engaging all stakeholders to ensure Odotobri gets its fair share of these benefits.”

He ended his tour with a call for unity, encouraging residents to support development efforts by maintaining facilities, staying involved in local initiatives, and holding institutions accountable.

“Development is a collective journey,” Hon. Mmieh said. “Together—with the people, AGA, and government—we will transform Odotobri into a model constituency.”

The MP’s visit has sparked renewed optimism among residents, who expressed appreciation for his hands-on leadership and the tangible results of AGA’s investments. The collaboration between the MP and AngloGold Ashanti is being hailed as a model for effective public-private partnerships in community development.
