About 5 years ago, Netherlands had 19 prisoners only and now in 2022, the country doesn’t have any criminals.
People may find it hard to believe that there is a place on earth where the jails are feeling alone. All the prisons around the world have the habit of hooligans and criminals residing and spending their years of imprisonment in it.
In a world where crimes are rapidly increasing, this European country will soon shut their prisons as a result of dropping the crime rates.
Surprisingly, Netherlands is a country that has no one to put behind the bars. 9 years ago, in 2013, Netherlands had 19 prisoners only and now in 2022, this country doesn’t have any criminals.
According to the report of Telegraph UK published in 2016, Dutch Ministry of Justice suggested overall crime will drop by 0.9 per cent a year in the next five years.
Shutting prisons may mean that about 2,000 people will lose their jobs and only 700 out of them will be transferred to other roles available to the government. However, the decision will also mean that the country have succeeded as a system, as a government and as citizen.
The issue of empty prisons has reached to a point where last year, Netherlands had to import prisoners from Norway to keep their facilities full and system running.
