MTN Ghana Intensifies Fight Against Cybercrime with Staff Awareness Forum in Kumasi

As part of its annual global cybersecurity awareness campaign, MTN Ghana’s Northern Business District has organized a staff forum in Kumasi to deepen awareness and preparedness against the growing wave of cyber threats.

The event, held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the company’s Ashanti Regional Office in Kaase, brought together employees from across the region to engage in discussions on digital safety, data protection, and responsible online behavior. It formed part of MTN Ghana’s commitment to empowering its workforce with the right knowledge and tools to combat the increasing menace of cybercrime.
The forum, held under the theme “Securing Our Digital Future,” featured insightful presentations and an interactive panel discussion led by key MTN Ghana executives, including Adwoa Afrakoma Baah Obeng, Senior Manager for Retail Experience – Northern Business District; Jackline Hanson-Kotei, Senior Manager for Enterprise Information Security and Governance; and Simon Amoh, Senior Manager – Northern Business District.

Discussions during the session explored several relevant topics such as social engineering tactics, phishing attacks, data protection regulations, online scams, and the importance of adopting safe digital habits. The panel emphasized that in today’s interconnected digital environment, cybersecurity is no longer the sole responsibility of IT departments but a collective duty of every employee and stakeholder.

Speaking to journalists after the event, Jackline Hanson-Kotei underscored the significance of cybersecurity in today’s digital world, where individuals increasingly rely on online platforms for work, education, and personal engagements.
“Cybersecurity is no longer optional—it’s essential,” she stated. “As cybercrime continues to evolve, it’s important for everyone to take proactive steps to protect their digital lives. Awareness, vigilance, and responsible online behavior are key to building a secure digital ecosystem.”

She explained that the Kumasi forum was one of several initiatives being undertaken by MTN Ghana to foster a culture of cybersecurity across its workforce and beyond. According to her, the company is not only focused on internal awareness but also extending its efforts to the broader community through outreach programs.
“We are engaging senior high schools across both rural and urban areas through our cybersecurity awareness campaigns,” she revealed. “These programs aim to educate young people on the risks of the digital world, how to protect their personal information, and the long-term implications of their online activities.”
Hanson-Kotei also reaffirmed MTN Ghana’s commitment to working with key stakeholders, including government agencies, educational institutions, and the business community, to strengthen the country’s cybersecurity landscape.
She concluded by urging all employees and the general public to remain alert, practice safe online habits, and serve as ambassadors of cybersecurity within their various communities.
The event reinforced MTN Ghana’s leadership in promoting digital literacy and safety, aligning with its broader mission of enabling progress and connecting lives responsibly in a rapidly evolving technological environment.
Through initiatives such as this, MTN Ghana continues to demonstrate its dedication to not only providing reliable communication services but also ensuring that its employees and customers navigate the digital space safely and confidently.
