MTN Ghana Rallies Employees to “Secure Our Digital Future” at Kumasi Cybersecurity Forum

MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding its digital environment and empowering its workforce to combat cyber threats through awareness and education. This was demonstrated when the company’s Northern Business District hosted a staff cybersecurity awareness forum on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at its Ashanti Regional Office in Kaase, Kumasi.
The event formed part of MTN’s annual global cybersecurity awareness campaign, which seeks to strengthen digital resilience, encourage responsible online behavior, and promote a culture of cybersecurity across its operations.
Held under the theme “Securing Our Digital Future,” the forum aimed to educate staff on the latest trends in cybercrime, the dangers of social engineering, and practical steps to protect personal and corporate data. Participants were taken through detailed sessions on online scams, phishing tactics, data privacy, and digital ethics, emphasizing how small lapses in online security can lead to large-scale data breaches and financial losses.

The forum featured an engaging panel discussion led by key MTN Ghana executives, including Adwoa Afrakoma Baah Obeng, Senior Manager, Retail Experience – Northern Business District; Jackline Hanson-Kotei, Senior Manager, Enterprise Information Security and Governance – MTN Ghana; and Simon Amoh, Senior Manager – Northern Business District.
The experts took turns highlighting the need for staff to become cybersecurity-conscious, not just as employees but as responsible digital citizens. They stressed that cybersecurity is not merely a technical issue handled by IT departments but a shared responsibility that requires every individual to play an active role.

Addressing the media after the event, Jackline Hanson-Kotei emphasized that cybersecurity awareness has become critical in today’s technology-driven society, where people spend significant time online for work, education, and personal interactions.
“Cybersecurity is no longer optional—it’s essential,” she stated. “The more digital we become, the more exposed we are to cybercriminals who exploit human vulnerabilities. Everyone must take proactive steps to protect their digital lives through awareness, vigilance, and safe online practices.”

She explained that MTN Ghana’s cybersecurity campaign goes beyond internal staff training. The company has launched several public outreach initiatives, including awareness programs in senior high schools across both rural and urban communities. These initiatives are designed to educate young people on how to identify online risks, protect their personal data, and understand the long-term impact of their digital footprints.

Hanson-Kotei added that MTN Ghana remains dedicated to fostering a strong cybersecurity culture within its workforce and the general public, saying that digital safety must become second nature to every user.

“Cybersecurity is everyone’s business,” she remarked. “We encourage our staff and customers to stay alert, think before they click, and act as cybersecurity ambassadors wherever they are.”
The forum also provided staff with an opportunity to share real-life experiences of cyber threats and how they have mitigated them. This interactive engagement helped bridge the gap between technical cybersecurity principles and practical application in everyday life.

By organizing this forum, MTN Ghana once again demonstrated leadership in promoting digital safety and responsible connectivity. The initiative underscores the company’s commitment to not only providing innovative communication solutions but also ensuring that its people and customers are equipped to navigate the digital world safely, securely, and confidently.
Through continued awareness, education, and collaboration, MTN Ghana continues to rally its employees and partners to truly “secure our digital future.”
