The Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua Constituency, Hon. Seth Osei Akoto, has extended a helping hand to Betinko D/A Junior High School by donating a polytank to help resolve persistent water challenges facing the school.
The gesture follows an official appeal by the school authorities, who expressed the urgent need for a water storage system to cater for the students and staff. Prior to the donation, pupils were forced to walk long distances in search of water, which disrupted teaching and learning.
In a brief ceremony to hand over the polytank, the Kyeame of Betinko, Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanin, applauded the MP’s intervention. He noted that the donation will go a long way to reduce the stress on students and improve hygiene and academic concentration.
Hon. Seth Osei Akoto, in his remarks, reiterated his dedication to supporting the development of education in his constituency. “Water is life, and no school should struggle to access such a basic need. This is just one of many initiatives we are rolling out to ensure our children learn in a healthy and supportive environment,” he stated.
As part of his community engagement, the MP also paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Nyinahin, Nana Amampene Boateng Adutwum II, to join him in observing the Akwasidae festival. The visit demonstrated his commitment to preserving cultural values and strengthening bonds with traditional leaders.
During the visit, the Headteacher of Betinko D/A Primary and JHS, Nana Doku Marfo, who doubles as the Betinko Gyaasehene, took the opportunity to outline some of the pressing needs of the school. These include the wiring of the school block, the need for a computer printer for examination purposes, teacher furniture (desks and chairs), and materials to support reading programs aimed at enhancing student literacy.
He appealed to the MP and other benevolent individuals or organizations to support the school in its drive to raise academic standards and provide a better learning atmosphere.
The donation has been widely welcomed by the Betinko community, who praised Hon. Seth Osei Akoto for his responsiveness and continuous efforts to uplift educational standards in the Atwima Mponua Constituency.
