MINING ON WATER BODIES AND FOREST RESERVES MUST END NOW- TARKWA NSUAEM MCE CHARGES MINERS

The Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa Nsuaem, Hon. Benjamin Kessie who is also the Chairman of Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Security Council has embarked on operation which led to burning of Dredged Machines on the Bonsa River on May 24, 2021.

The MCE indicated that some recalcitrant miners are not ready to support the AGENDA ,”Protecting Our Red Zones” rather indulging In illigal mining despite the president ban on illegal mining.

According to Hon. Benjamin Kessie, the assembly will not condone the activities of the illegalities of the miniers thus, calling for a total seize of their operations.

The MEC bemoaned the deadly destruction of our water bodies saying that, the activities of illegal mining form silt which muddies the waters and in turn blocks the machines that pump water by Ghana water company.

Addressing the media, the MCE told New Day FM reporter, Nana Kwame Boah that, the fight against galamsey could not be won by only the government and urged the public, media, and other stakeholders to support the coalition to nib the practice in the bud.

Moreover, the Public Relations Officer for the Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Frankaa Korsah Deborah also urged Ghanaians to devoid politicising the fight against illegal mining and come into agreement with the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo to Protect Our Red Zone Areas.

Giving an assurance on the way forward of securing the safety of our environment and the water bodies, she said, the Assembly will do everything possible to save our water bodies and the forest reserves.

Earlier, MUSEC of Tarkwa Nsuaem on May, 06, about 10 dredging machines were destroyed and two(2) JCB excavators were impounded at Dompim Pepesa and towed the machines to the Assembly’s premises.
