Massive Jubilation as 27 Communities in Amansie South Connected to the National Grid

Residents of 27 communities in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region are in high spirits following their long-awaited connection to the national electricity grid. This monumental development, which has been years in the making, is being celebrated as a transformative milestone in the district’s development.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Member of Parliament for the Manso Adubia Constituency, Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo, and supported by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, marks a significant stride in the government’s commitment to improving rural infrastructure and uplifting underserved communities.

Beneficiary Communities

Among the communities now enjoying electricity are Akyekyerekrom, Groso, Manukro, Yaw Kasa, Brikyakrom, and several adjoining areas. The electrification project has rekindled hope among residents, who anticipate that access to electricity will significantly boost local economic activities, enhance education, and improve healthcare delivery.

Speaking to the media, jubilant residents expressed immense gratitude to Hon. Frimpong Addo for his relentless efforts in advocating for the project. Many also commended Vice President Dr. Bawumia for his unwavering support and commitment to bridging the rural-urban development gap.

Resident Reactions

One resident of Groso, Madam Ama Serwaa, described the occasion as life-changing. “We have waited for decades to see this day. Our children can now study under proper lighting, and businesses will thrive. God bless Hon. Frimpong Addo and the government for bringing light to us,” she said.

Others highlighted the potential for improved healthcare services, as local health facilities can now rely on stable electricity to operate essential equipment.

A Government Commitment to Rural Development

Speaking at a community durbar to mark the occasion, Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo reiterated his dedication to addressing the needs of his constituents. He emphasized that the electrification project aligns with the government’s broader vision of ensuring universal access to electricity.

“This project is a game-changer for the Amansie South District. It will open doors to many opportunities for socio-economic growth. I urge all residents to take full advantage of this development to improve their livelihoods,” he stated.

Hon. Frimpong Addo also thanked the Vice President and the Ministry of Energy for their collaboration and commitment to extending essential services to rural areas.

The electrification initiative forms part of the government’s agenda to achieve universal electricity access by 2025, as outlined in its rural development policies. By connecting rural communities to the national grid, the government aims to reduce poverty, enhance education, and empower rural enterprises.

A Bright Future for Amansie South

For many years, communities in the Amansie South District faced challenges due to the lack of electricity. This electrification project is expected to transform the local economy, creating new opportunities in areas such as agro-processing, refrigeration, and small-scale businesses.

The electrification of these communities is not just a technological achievement but also a major socio-economic milestone that promises to improve the quality of life for thousands of residents.

As the lights come on in Akyekyerekrom, Groso, and beyond, the people of Amansie South are optimistic about a brighter future, made possible through collaborative leadership and a commitment to rural development.
