Manso Domi-Keniago Chief Appeals to Government to Fix Deplorable Roads, Calls for Tertiary Institution to Address Teacher Shortage

The Chief of Manso Domi-Keniago in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Obeng Mensah Ababio II, has passionately appealed to the government to urgently rehabilitate the deplorable road networks in the district, describing them as a significant obstacle to the area’s socio-economic development.

Speaking at a grand durbar organized to raise support for a Teachers’ Quarters project in Manso Domi-Keniago, the chief labeled the current road conditions as “death traps” and urged the government to act immediately to ensure safe travel and unhindered daily activities for residents. “We deserve our fair share of the national cake. Our roads are in a terrible state, and life is extremely difficult for residents, especially during the rainy season. We can’t talk about development when our roads remain in this condition,” he lamented.

Nana Obeng Mensah Ababio II stressed that the poor roads are negatively affecting every aspect of life in the community—including education, healthcare, agriculture, and trade. He explained that residents are unable to easily access essential services and that many young people are discouraged from returning home due to the absence of basic infrastructure.

Beyond roads, the chief also urged the government to establish a tertiary institution—specifically a teacher training college—in the Amansie South District. According to him, the district is grappling with a severe shortage of qualified teachers, which continues to hinder educational progress. “Education is the foundation of every developed society. Unfortunately, our district continues to suffer from an acute shortage of teachers. The presence of a teacher training college here will not only provide access to higher education for our youth but also produce more teachers to serve our schools,” the chief noted.

The durbar, themed “Building Together, Thriving in Peace,” brought together traditional leaders, local government officials, teachers, youth, and residents, all united in their support for the construction of a Teachers’ Quarters to help attract and retain educators in the area.

In response to the concerns raised, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Amansie South, Hon. Benjamin Marfo, assured the chief and the community of his commitment to lobbying for their developmental needs at the national level. “The chief and his elders are doing their part. But development is a shared responsibility. As DCE, I will continue to knock on the doors of ministries and relevant authorities to ensure the concerns of Manso Domi-Keniago are heard and acted upon,” Hon. Marfo affirmed.

He further appealed to natives of Manso Domi-Keniago, both in Ghana and abroad, to lend their support to ongoing development efforts in the community. “It’s time for all sons and daughters of this land, whether home or abroad, to come together and support this noble cause. Let us build a better future for our children,” he urged.
