A 39-year-old man has been found dead in a well at Asokore in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The victim, identified as Roland Chawey, allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the well on the dawn of Monday, August 28, 2023.
According to the assembly member of Fofie Electoral Area, Isaac Osei, he made distress calls to the police, fire service and NADMO immediately after being informed of the incident.
However, Roland was pronounced dead when the firefighters brought him out of the well.
Meanwhile, some residents said Chawey Roland was a known drug addict.
They also added that he fell sick recently and was admitted to St. Joseph Hospital but escaped.
The body has since been deposited at the St.Joseph Hospital mortuary.
It adds to several suicide cases in recent times.
A 55-year-old fetish priest reportedly committed suicide after shooting his girlfriend over sexual intimacy disputes at Ejisu-Juaben in the Ashanti Region.
The incident happened on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
In another incident, a headteacher at Sekyedumase in the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipality of the Ashanti Region allegedly committed suicide a few weeks before his wedding.
The deceased, 38-year-old Ernest Attah Kyei, was found hanging in his room on Monday, July 31, 2023, after relatives inquired about his whereabouts.
