The Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) has said that the maintenance works ongoing at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant will end on April 8.

A statement issued by Head of Corporate Communications at GNGC Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah Bonsu said that there is an ongoing shutdown of the plant for routine maintenance works.

“The maintenance works which commenced on the 25th of March 2023 is expected to be completed on April 8,” the statement said.

It added “Management of Ghana Gas wishes to assure the general public that our team off engineers are working to restore the plant back to normalcy.”
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is said to be preparing to release a schedule to guide consumers as gas supply to some power plants is going to be affected.

“The shutdown will affect gas supply to some power plants and will ultimately result in interruption of power supply to some consumers,” a statement from the Ministry of Energy on Wednesday, March 29 said.

“In the circumstance, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will shortly release a schedule to this effect.”

The Ministry promised that there is going to be a procurement of additional gas from Nigeria to manage the impending “adverse effects”.

The additional supply from Nigeria will include Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and Light Crude Oil (LCO).

“Consistent with the ‘Dum Siesie’ programme of ensuring reliable power supply through robust and necessary maintenance activities, the Ministry wishes to assure the general public that the Ministry is actively working with all stakeholders to ensure that any adverse effects of this exercise is mitigated.”
