Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly sworn in newly elected unit committees and Town Council members into office

The newly elected Unit Committees and Town Council members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) have been sworn into office by Her Worship Deborah Gyaawa Donkor ,Kumasi District Court. pledging to serve their communities diligently and uphold the principles of good governance.

 

Addressing the gathering, the Mayor of Kumasi , Hon. Samuel Pyne commended the newly elected members for their commitment to public service. He reminded them of the weight of the responsibility entrusted to them.

He highlighted the significance of the event as part of the decentralisation framework, emphasising the crucial role of unit committees in complementing the work of the councils at the grassroots level.

Mayor Hon Samuel pyne touched on the importance of citizen engagement in local governance. He called for collaboration among unit committees, sub-district councils, and various stakeholders for effective decision-making and development, including chiefs, opinion leaders, and community members.

He expressed confidence in the members’ ability to fulfil their responsibilities and assured them of her office’s support for collaborative efforts in developing the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

Hon Samuel Pyne asked that they stayed back from turf fight and should not arrogate to themselves powers they did not have.

He reminded that it was not within their mandate to legislate or enact bye-laws, adding that, their role was largely to complement the work of the assembly members.

They should concentrate on assisting the assembly in its revenue collection, enumerating and keeping records of all taxable persons and properties, organizing communal labor, and monitoring the implementation of development projects in their communities.

Hon Samuel pyne urged them to do more to support the revenue mobilization drive of the KMA.

The Mayor counseled that they collaborated with chiefs and other stakeholders in the local governance and said this was vital to the achievement of set development goals.

He told them not to betray the trust of the people they should make sure they lived up to expectation.

On their part prisiding member Hon Patrick kwame frimpong and some of the newly sworn in unit committee members and town council also share their readiness to work effectively to support the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
