The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly in partnership with the ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and the World Bank under the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area (GKMA) sanitation project ( liquid waste) have compensated 303 people in the affected Asafo Sewage treatment system.
The treatment system spans from parts of KsTU to Labour Roundabout, Asafo Market to Pentecost Church, Asafo Township although to Abinkyi the treatment site.
The Resettlement Action Plan – RAP(compensation) was prepared in accordance with the World Bank’s Involuntary Resettlement Policy (OP 4.12) and applicable Ghanaian Laws and regulations.
The compensation is to mitigate the adverse impacts of persons who would be affected by the sub project.
The sewage line has properties such as kiosks, containers, housees and its has already been valuated by the valuation division of Lands Commission.
Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Sam Pyne speaking on the first day of the process entreated the PAPs to use their monies judiciously and also ensure that they pave way for construction works to commence.
He indicated that they have three weeks to vacate from the treatment line to allow for reconstruction.
The amount per recipient is dependent on the valuation report starting from 900.00 cedis to 450,000.00 cedis he added.
Hon. Pyne was optimistic reconstruction would curb the frequent spill and stench in the areas along the sewage line.
