KMA and Bloomberg philanthropies declares commitment towards road safety campaign

Earlier today, the Mayor of Kumasi,Hon Samuel Pyne hosted Kelly Larson,the Director of Bloomberg philanthropies initiative for Global Road safety (BIGRS) Global at his office.
Kelly Larson mentioned that her visit was part of the world-wide visit to the 27 cities identified by BIGRS to combat speeding on our roads, and emphasized their commitment to support the Assembly in the fight.

She added that their purposes is to network and share ideas and knowledge for the advancement of life saving intervention in road safety such as wearing of seatbelts, reducing speed and adhering to road signages.

While acknowledging that BIGRS effort is to augument what the city is already doing to fight speeding, she also appreciated the effort of both teams to hold virtual meetings during the peak of the covid-19 pandemic.

She strongly believes that the road safety campaign can be achieved. and it is on this premise that two speed guns were provided to the MTTU of the Ghana police service.

Hon Samuel Pyne mentioned that KMA has ensured that the Road safety initiative is given the highest attention it deserves and to give the city stronger control of what is done under the initiative and ensure It becomes embedded in our activities,they have set up a staff team if strong and highly placed people within the Assembly to help steer affairs.

It is worth noting that since road safety does not have boundaries, the city has put in place a system where all Assemblies within Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area are involved in the education programs.

Present at the meeting were in the Regional team of the National Road safety Authority- NRSA, The Ashanti Regional Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate(MTTD) of the Ghana Police service,vital strategies, surveillance Team Drivers Union and KMA.
