Guinness Ghana Introduces New MD to Asantehene, Updates Him on Sale to Castel Group

Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL) has formally introduced its Managing Director to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, during a courtesy visit to the Manhyia Palace.

The visit, led by Board Chairman Dr. Felix E. Addo, also served as an opportunity for the company’s leadership to update the Asantehene on Diageo Plc’s decision to sell its 80.4% majority stake in Guinness Ghana to the Castel Group, a French multinational beverage company.

The high-level delegation included key figures such as Samuel Markin, Director of Supply Chain; Kelvin Boateng, Legal Officer; John Boadu, Board Member; Kofi Sekyere, Board Member; and Silvia Owusu, Corporate Affairs Officer.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Addo expressed gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his continuous support and guidance in fostering business growth in the Ashanti Region and Ghana as a whole. He reassured the King of Guinness Ghana’s commitment to maintaining high-quality beverage production and sustaining its contributions to the local economy.

The Asantehene, in his response, acknowledged the long-standing presence of Guinness Ghana in the country and encouraged the company’s leadership to ensure that the transition to Castel Group benefits Ghanaian workers and consumers. He also urged them to maintain strong corporate social responsibility efforts, particularly in areas of employment, environmental sustainability, and local sourcing of raw materials.

The visit comes amid ongoing regulatory processes for the acquisition, which, when finalized, will see Castel Group take over one of Ghana’s most prominent beverage companies.

GGBL remains a key player in the Ghanaian beverage industry, producing well-known brands such as Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, Malta Guinness, Orijin, and Smirnoff Ice.

The meeting at the Manhyia Palace underscores the significance of the transaction, as the Ashanti Region remains a critical market for Guinness Ghana’s operations.
