GNAT Presses Government to Settle Outstanding Promotional Allowances for Teachers

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in the Manfo local, Ahafo Ano North Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has urged the government to swiftly release the allowances owed to teachers who have been promoted but are yet to receive their entitled benefits.

This call was made during the association’s conference, where new executives were elected to lead GNAT in the municipality. Speaking at the event, the newly elected chairperson, Madam Rebbecca Frimpomaa Antwi, expressed deep concern over the undue delays in processing the allowances of promoted teachers, stressing that such setbacks undermine morale and productivity.

“Teachers who have worked hard to earn promotions should not be subjected to unnecessary delays in receiving their rightful benefits. These allowances are not privileges; they are entitlements that must be paid without hesitation,” she emphasized.

Madam Frimpomaa Antwi further highlighted the alarming shortage of teachers in rural communities under the Manfo local jurisdiction. She urged the government and relevant authorities to address this gap by deploying more educators to deprived areas to ensure equitable access to quality education.

“Some of our villages are struggling with just a handful of teachers handling multiple classes. This situation is not sustainable, and we call on the government to make rural teacher deployment a priority,” she added.

The conference concluded with a renewed commitment by GNAT executives to advocate for the welfare of teachers and push for immediate action from the government. Teachers in the municipality remain hopeful that their concerns will be addressed to create a more supportive and efficient educational system.
