Fix Ejisu’s Bad Roads Urgently – MP Kwabena Boateng Appeals to Road Minister

The Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Hon. Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, has made a passionate appeal to the Minister of Roads and Highways and the government to urgently intervene and fix the deplorable road network in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

His appeal follows a sit-down strike by commercial drivers plying the Ejisu-Onwe road on the 7th of July 2025. The protest saw drivers blocking the road, bringing vehicular movement to a standstill and leaving commuters stranded for hours. According to the drivers, the poor condition of the road has become unbearable, causing severe damage to their vehicles and posing safety risks to passengers and motorists alike.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament yesterday, Hon. Lawyer Kwabena Boateng seized the opportunity to draw national attention to the dire state of roads in Ejisu, particularly the heavily used Ejisu-Onwe stretch. The visibly emotional MP described the situation as a major concern that demands immediate government intervention to prevent further deterioration and ease the hardship being endured by residents and drivers.

“The people of Ejisu are suffering. The roads are in a terrible state, and our drivers are fed up. Their vehicles are constantly breaking down, and transportation has become increasingly dangerous and expensive for commuters. I am pleading with the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the entire NDC government to act swiftly to fix these roads and bring relief to my constituents,” he said.

He lamented that despite repeated complaints and assurances from authorities, little progress has been made over the years, leading to growing frustration among the residents. Hon. Boateng stressed that good roads are a vital component of economic development and called on the government to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Ejisu road network, including the Ejisu-Onwe, Ejisu-Krapa, and Ejisu-Besease roads.

The MP’s emotional appeal resonated with many of his colleagues in Parliament, some of whom nodded in agreement as he spoke. He further urged the government to dispatch technical teams to assess the affected roads and immediately initiate construction works to restore them to a motorable state.

Meanwhile, the commercial drivers in Ejisu have vowed to continue their protests if no concrete steps are taken in the coming weeks to address their concerns. Some of the drivers, in interviews with the media, stated that they are losing their livelihoods due to frequent breakdowns, high maintenance costs, and reduced passenger flow caused by the bad roads.

Residents have also joined the call, urging the government not to turn a blind eye to their plight. “We feel neglected. This road is important not only to Ejisu but to the entire Ashanti Region. We need action, not promises,” a local trader remarked.

As tensions rise in Ejisu over the state of the roads, all eyes are now on the Ministry of Roads and Highways to respond swiftly to the MP’s appeal and ensure that the cries of the people are not ignored.
