Empowering Technical Education: KTI Construction Tutors Trained in Modern Ceiling and Partition Systems with GSDF Support

Technical education in Ghana continues to take bold strides as tutors from Kumasi Technical Institute’s (KTI) Construction Department have benefitted from a practical, industry-based training in modern ceiling and partition systems. The one-day hands-on training, held on KTI campus, was made possible through the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF), under the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET).
The training focused on ceiling installation, drywall partitioning, acoustic insulation, and the use of modern tools and technologies in the construction sector. It was facilitated by experts from the Manufacturing Tools Centre, who brought practical, real-world knowledge to the classroom.
Principal of KTI, Mr. Gabriel Kingsford Osei, praised the initiative and emphasized the importance of aligning technical instruction with global industry standards.
“This workshop has brought a refreshing shift from the theoretical to the practical. Our tutors now have the first-hand knowledge needed to guide students and apprentices using modern tools and methods,” he said.
According to Mr. Osei, the training forms part of a broader institutional goal to transform KTI into a hub for technical excellence, capable of responding to the changing dynamics of the construction industry.
The tutors received step-by-step demonstrations on ceiling and partition installations, including measuring, cutting, framing, and finishing techniques now popular in residential and commercial buildings.
For many of the participants, the experience was eye-opening.
“We’ve seen these techniques in textbooks, but today we worked with our hands. Now we understand the process and can confidently train our students,” shared one tutor.
The Principal also took the opportunity to advocate for stronger interest in technical and vocational training, especially among prospective Senior High School students.
“I encourage parents and 2025 BECE candidates to seriously consider technical institutions like KTI. TVET is the foundation for skilled careers and national development,” he urged.
The Ghana Skills Development Fund continues to champion initiatives that bring education and industry together, providing institutions like KTI with the resources and support needed to train the next generation of skilled workers.
This collaboration between GSDF and KTI marks a strong commitment to building a workforce that is both technically proficient and industry-ready—paving the way for a more productive, self-reliant Ghana.
