As Ghana approaches its critical December 7, 2024 elections, the Leader of African Faith Tabernacle Church (Odifo Nkansah), Superior Prophet Stephen Frimpong Nkansah III, has issued a heartfelt plea to the nation’s youth and citizens alike to resist political manipulation and remain vigilant for the sake of national harmony.
The religious leader made these remarks during a significant gathering and celebration of the Church’s National/International Convention held at the Independence Square in Accra on December 1, 2024. The event was centered around the theme: “Surrey, I will not come into the Tabernacle of My House.”
In his address, Superior Prophet Nkansah stressed the importance of unity and peace as Ghana enters the final stretch leading up to the elections. He warned against the rising trend of politicians using young people to engage in violent activities and other destructive behaviors in exchange for promises of wealth and power. He described this as a tragic exploitation of vulnerable youth for selfish political gain, warning that such exploitation undermines their dignity and value as human beings.
“Sacrificing one’s life for the ambitions of others is an affront to one’s dignity,” said the Superior Prophet. “In the 21st century, we must evolve and stop allowing politicians to dictate our lives.”
Nkansah’s words were particularly pointed in addressing how political manipulation often leads to the loss of lives and opportunities for the youth, who are later abandoned once the politicians they serve reach power. He emphasized that it is crucial for Ghanaians, especially the youth, to maintain their integrity and make decisions based on reason and wisdom, rather than following political figures blindly.
He called on Ghanaians to participate in the upcoming elections not out of coercion or manipulation, but out of a deep understanding of the principles of good governance and leadership. “We should be political persons, using our minds to discern truth from coercion and manipulation,” he said. “Evaluate candidates not by superficial qualities or material incentives, but by their character, intelligence, and principled leadership. Look for those who genuinely care for the welfare of our nation.”
Furthermore, Superior Prophet Nkansah reminded his congregation that political participation is a right that should be exercised with respect and responsibility. He urged voters to empower themselves politically but not to become “political animals” driven by baseless instincts or inflammatory rhetoric. The religious leader stressed that peace and unity should remain at the forefront of every decision, both leading up to and following the elections.
The legal practitioner of the church, Lawyer Elijah Turkson Bonsu, also addressed the gathering, highlighting his efforts to ensure a peaceful electoral process that brings unity, peace, and God’s glory to the nation. He urged the church members to continue supporting their leaders, remain calm, and focus on God’s will as the election draws near.
In a closing appeal, Superior Prophet Nkansah reminded his congregation that the path to national progress and peace lies in making informed, peaceful decisions that will positively impact the future of the country. He urged everyone to be cautious, reflective, and discerning in the weeks leading up to the December polls.
As the country prepares for what promises to be a tense election season, the message from the African Faith Tabernacle Church is clear: Ghanaians must resist being manipulated by politics, prioritize unity and peace, and ensure that their voices are heard in a manner that upholds their dignity and contributes to the greater good of the nation.
