An ambulance assigned to the Ejura Sekyedumase constituency under the One -Constituency One Ambulance policy has been involved in an accident on its way from Techiman to Ejura on Sunday.
The crash occurred at Grumakrom, a village near Nkoranza after transferring a patient from Ejura to the Techiman Holy family hospital.
Narrating how the accident occurred, the Head of the Municipal Ambulance Service, Mr. Princecott Koranteng Daniels explained that two motor riders were carelessly riding in the lane of the ambulance and in a bid to avoid hitting the riders, the ambulance driver swerved but unfortunately, the vehicle skidded off the road and somersaulted.
“What is so painful is that when the accident occurred, the two motor riders who each had pillion riders did not even bother to stop to see what had happened and offer help. The Emergency Medical Team (EMT) in the ambulance who sustained injuries were sent back to the Nkoranza hospital where they were treated and have been discharged.”
Mr. Princecott Koranteng Daniels advised the general public, especially road users to always give way to ambulances whenever they hear sirens blurring in order to save lives.
Meanwhile, the damaged ambulance has been towed to Kumasi for repairs following which it will return to Ejura-Sekyedumase to continue working.
The motor riders are yet to be arrested to help in investigations.
