Two community nurses working at Akyem Osorase CHPs compound facility in Achiase District in Eastern region have been attacked by two young men believed to be illegal miners.
One of the nurses – Cecilia Brago was severely assaulted but her colleague Gifty Osei managed to escape into hiding.
The victim nurse Cecilia Brago narrated that, one of the suspects earlier arrived at the facility on motorbike drunk and started insulting everybody and threatening to beat them without any provocation as he banged on the door of the CHPs compound .
He claimed he was seeking healthcare for his injuries.
The nurse said, when the gate was opened the suspect continued his threat in more aggressive manner as a result they refused to treat him at the facility for safety reasons therefore referred him to Oda Government Hospital.
Few minutes later he stormed out of the facility with the motorbike and returned with another young man to assault them.
“He rushed on me, accosted and pushed me against the wall and started beating me. My other colleague managed to escape to hiding and started making calls for police intervention but it took police 45 minutes before they arrived here by which time the suspects have left”.
Gifty Osei, said they are gripped with fear therefore called for provision of private security at the facility
Though, the suspects are from the community they don’t live there anymore
Police has however commenced investigation.
