Dunkwa-On-Offin Nursing and Midwifery Training College (DMNTC) has held its 4th Graduation which coincided with the 14th Matriculation Ceremony, last Thursday.
The Principal of the College, Dr. David Ben Sampson disclosed that all 619 graduands have gone through all the “relevant aspects” of the training within the laid down duration of two or three years depending on the programme pursued, noting the sense of “accomplishment, fulfilment and inner motivation” this brings about.
Ms. Sabina Amponsah, Ms. Saluiah Huraira and Ms. Selima Rahaman were adjudged valedictorians.
The Principal further disclosed that 846 students, which comprises of 234 Registered Midwifery, 419 Registered General Nursing and 193 Registered Nurse Assistant Clinical have been admitted into the college for the 2024/2025 academic year, after meeting the “relevant requirements” and going through the “due processes”.
Dr. Sampson advised graduands to go into the society to serve “humanity” with the knowledge and the professional competences acqired during their training, and also advised matriculants to take their training seriously.
According to Dr. Sampson, the College has worked tirelessly to go through the processes, as it seeks “accreditation” to run Bachelor of Science (BSc.)programmes in General Nursing, Midwifery and Public Health, noting that the “curricula” for the aforementioned programmes, have been designed with the help of “Consultants”, and have been submitted to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission as well as “sailing through the first phase of assessment”.
Indicating the College’s challenges, the Principal underscored the “need” for more lecture halls, hostel facilities as well as staff accommodation, to aid in the facilitation of the BSc. programmes, and also “inadequate funds” for the administration of the college.
Dr. Sampson appealed to the Ministry of Health to include DNMTC in the “capital projects”, as well as sourcing for funds, to help the College run efficiently and effectively.
Acknowledging the collective work to bring the College, this far, Dr. David Ben Sampson entreated all and sundry to join hands, and continue to move the institution forward in terms of “growth and development”.
Dr. Okofrobour Obeng Nuako III, Dunkwahene advised matriculants to take their training seriously, urging parents to support their wards as well as keeping tabs on them during training.
At the ceremony were Hon. Dr. Festus Awuah Kwofie, Member of Parliament, Upper Denkyira Constituency, Hon. Ebenezer Appiah Forson, Chief Executive, Upper Denkyira Muncipal and Hon. Richmond Doudo, Board Chairman, DNMTC.
Meanwhile, the College has commissioned its “mineral water project” christened “DNMTC ICE” after the college, as well as a Staff Bungalow
