Bono: Dr. Kwasi Nyame-Baafi supports road shaping exercise in Sunyani

In a heartwarming display of appreciation, commercial drivers who apply Sunyani-Baakoniaba road in the Sunyani East Municipality have showered praises on Dr. Kwasi Nyame-Baafi for his generous donation of GH¢1,500 to support the reshaping of the poor road.
Dr. Kwasi Nyame-Baafi, who’s a Senior Lecturer at GIMPA, Senior Fellow at the Institute of Economic Policy Research and Policy Planning and economic adviser to Dr. Bawumia has been instrumental in the economic and infrastructure development in the municipality.
On Friday, July 4, the assembly member for Penkwasi East electoral area, Emmanuel Nketiah, presented the donation on behalf of Dr. Kwasi Nyame-Baafi to support the drivers’ planned road reshaping exercise.
The commercial drivers had expressed deep concern over the poor state of the road, which became muddy and slippery during the rainy season, making transportation difficult and affecting their operations.
Despite trying alternative solutions to repair the road, they were unable to succeed due to financial challenges.
Their recent efforts to request the municipal assembly’s District Road Improvement machines (DRIP) to reshape the road were hindered by financial constraints, particularly the cost of fuel for the machines.
In a desperate bid to salvage their plight, the drivers, who had nearly lost hope, took to radio stations to advocate for funds and support.
However, with Dr. Kwasi Nyame-Baafi’s intervention after their call, the drivers noted that the donation will go a long way in addressing part of the financial challenges.
Nathaniel Annor Sakyi, a unit committee member for Baakoniaba, described the donation as timely and appreciates Dr. Kwasi Nyame-Baafi’s kindness.
Another resident of Baakoniaba Gyato, Nana Kwadwo, highlighted the challenges posed by the deplorable road, including drivers’ reluctance to work at night and exorbitant transport fares.
Yaw Frimpong, who introduced himself as the chairman of Baakoniaba taxi drivers, commended Dr. Kwasi Nyame-Baafi for the generous donation and called on other philanthropists to come to their aid to mobilize more revenue towards reshaping the road.
According to him, they will hand over the donation to the municipal assembly, with the expectation that it will be used to purchase fuel for the road reshaping exercise before the situation deteriorate.
