Mr. Opoku was adjudged winner of the “Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research Excellence Award” for his outstanding role in advancing academic excellence, promoting research, and shaping the future of nursing and midwifery training in Ghana. The award highlights his years of dedication to evidence-based practice, professional development, and leadership in the health education sector.

As a respected researcher, Mr. Opoku has published and co-authored several scholarly works. Among his notable contributions is the article “Strategies for Corrective Misinformation about Vaccination and Increasing Coverage: Relevance for Health Education”, featured in the British Journal of Healthcare and Medical Research, Vol. 12 (04), pp. 309–316. His research offers practical insights into combating health misinformation, particularly on vaccinations, while promoting effective public health education strategies.

In his remarks after receiving the award, Mr. Opoku expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health and the Nursing and Midwifery fraternity for recognising his efforts. He explained that research is a vital tool across all disciplines, particularly in healthcare, where it not only informs policy and practice but also enriches student learning and enhances patient care. He urged educators, students, and professionals to embrace research as a culture that drives innovation and ensures better healthcare outcomes.

The Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards, held annually, serve as a national platform to acknowledge professionals who demonstrate extraordinary service, leadership, and innovation in Ghana’s health sector. The 2025 edition emphasised the importance of education and research as pillars for advancing healthcare delivery and professional standards.

Mr. Opoku’s recognition has been hailed as a proud moment for Sampa Nursing Training College. Staff, students, and stakeholders of the institution believe the award is a testament to his visionary leadership, which has significantly raised the profile of the college and positioned it as a centre of excellence in nursing and midwifery training in the Bono Region and beyond.
