The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has debunked reports that a new Ministry for Pensions has been created.
Earlier reports indicated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had appointed Labour and Employment Minister Ignatius Baffour-Awauh as the Minister designated for Pensions.
This means “you will be responsible for the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPTA) and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT),” the appointment letter said.
The appointment was effective January 30, 2023.
But the Employment Ministry in a statement said “The attention of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has been drawn to various articles in the news and social media suggesting that a new Ministry has been created for Pensions and Hon Ignatius Baffuour-Awuah has been appointed as its new sector Minister.
“For the avoidance of doubt, no such new Ministry has been created. Indeed the letter emanating from HE the president only seeks to formally assign the two institutions National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) and Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to Hon Ignatius Baffour-Awuah as an additional responsibility.
“The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations would therefore be grateful if all concerned disregard the erroneous impression being created by the said articles in the media and on various social media platforms.”
