The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua of the Ashanti region, Hon. Ishaq Ibrahim, has made a passionate appeal to President John Dramani Mahama and his government to prioritize the completion of critical development projects in the district to accelerate growth and improve living conditions for residents.

Speaking during an engagement with Media, Hon. Ibrahim highlighted several pressing areas that require urgent government intervention. At the top of his call was the Agenda 111 hospital project in the district, which he revealed is currently 70 percent complete. He explained that finishing the facility would transform healthcare delivery in Atwima Mponua by reducing the heavy burden on the existing health centres, improving access to quality medical services, and saving lives.
The DCE also turned his attention to challenges facing the district’s teacher training college. According to him, the institution continues to grapple with inadequate infrastructure, including the absence of teachers’ bungalows and student hostel facilities. He emphasized that investing in these areas is crucial to raising the quality of education and building the human resource base of the district.
Hon. Ibrahim further expressed worry about the poor state of telecommunications network coverage in Atwima Mponua. He disclosed that only 30 percent of the communities currently enjoy reliable services, leaving the majority cut off from effective communication. This, he noted, negatively affects education, commerce, and overall community development. He therefore appealed to the National Communications Authority (NCA) and telecommunication companies to extend their services to underserved areas to bridge the gap.
On the development of sports, the DCE called on the Ministry of Youth and Sports to expedite work on the Nyinahin Sports Complex. He described the facility as a beacon of hope for young people in the district, stressing that when completed, it would help unearth sporting talents, promote youth participation, and create opportunities for development through sports.
Touching on the sensitive issue of mining in Atwima Mponua, Hon. Ibrahim clarified that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is not against mining, but is committed to encouraging responsible and sustainable practices. He assured genuine miners of his full support, but warned that illegal operators who destroy water bodies and farmlands would face strict enforcement actions.
The DCE’s appeal reflects the growing expectations of the people of Atwima Mponua, who are eager to see government complete these vital projects that have the potential to transform healthcare, education, infrastructure, communication, sports, and sustainable mining in the district.
