One person has died while two others who sustained life-threatening injuries are receiving medical care following a vehicular fire at Asiakwa Junction in the Eastern Region.
The fire involved a fully loaded DAF tanker carrying 54,000 liters of petrol, two Mazda Demios, and a Hyundai truck on Monday, July 29, 2024.
The collision caused extensive fire damage, with the bulk tank of the DAF tanker (GC 1054-11) and one Mazda Demio (GW 3254-13) completely burnt. Another Mazda Demio (CR 1182-19), the Hyundai truck (WR 4108-13), and the cowl of the DAF tanker suffered partial damage.
The Bunso Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service was notified late in the afternoon. Fire personnel, led by ADO I Samuel Doe, responded and managed to contain the blaze.
Support teams from Kyebi and Anyinam also assisted in the firefighting efforts.
Trapped victims were rescued by fire service personnel and taken to Kyebi Government Hospital.
A fire service report on Tuesday, July 30, confirmed the death of one of the victims.
