Ashanti Regional Minister, RECSEC, and Mayor Celebrate Otumfuo’s 75th Birthday at Manhyia Palace During Awukudae Festival

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, together with the Ashanti Regional Security Council (RECSEC) and the Mayor of Kumasi, had the distinguished honour of participating in the Awukudae festival at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
The occasion was made even more special as it coincided with the celebration of the 75th birthday of His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene. Dr. Amoakohene, in his address, extended warmest wishes to Otumfuo on behalf of the Regional Coordinating Council and the entire people of Ashanti, commending His Majesty’s extraordinary leadership, wisdom, and commitment to the peace and development of Asanteman and Ghana at large.
In a heartfelt gesture, Dr. Amoakohene also conveyed the regards and well wishes of the former President and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The minister noted that Mr. Mahama holds Otumfuo’s leadership in the highest esteem and joins the many voices celebrating the Asantehene’s tremendous impact over the past decades.
The meeting at Manhyia Palace was particularly significant as it marked one of the first engagements between the Regional leadership and His Majesty following their respective returns from abroad. During the interaction, Dr. Amoakohene and his delegation took the opportunity to brief the Asantehene on major developments in the Ashanti Region, including security issues, infrastructure projects, and social interventions aimed at improving the livelihoods of the people.
“Seeking Otumfuo’s wisdom, guidance, and blessings remains integral to our governance approach in Ashanti. His Majesty’s counsel continues to inspire us as we work to uphold peace, dignity, and progress in the region,” Dr. Amoakohene emphasized.
The Awukudae festival, one of the most revered traditional ceremonies in the Ashanti Kingdom, provided a fitting backdrop for the celebration. Awukudae offers the Asantehene an opportunity to commune with his ancestors and renew the spiritual bonds that underpin the authority and unity of the Asante people.
As the celebrations continue, the Ashanti Regional Minister expressed optimism that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s reign will endure for many more years, bringing further blessings, development, and cohesion to Asanteman and the nation.
“May Otumfuo’s reign continue to bring peace, dignity, and progress to Asanteman and Ghana,” he concluded.
The colorful ceremony saw a cross-section of dignitaries, traditional rulers, and citizens converging at the Manhyia Palace to pay homage to the Asantehene and celebrate his remarkable legacy.
