The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has taken a bold step to rejuvenate the once-thriving Kumawood film industry by establishing a ministerial committee to develop a strategic blueprint for its revival.
During a high-level engagement with directors and producers in the Ashanti Region today, Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the crucial role Kumawood has played in Ghanaian entertainment, culture, and storytelling, adding that it is time to reignite its full potential.
“As an industry that has shaped Ghana’s creative arts sector and provided employment for thousands, Kumawood deserves renewed attention. This initiative will focus on revitalizing the industry, creating more job opportunities, and ensuring greater national and international recognition,” he stated.
Blueprint for a Stronger Kumawood
The newly formed committee will work closely with industry stakeholders, actors, producers, directors, and scriptwriters to address key challenges affecting the sector. Among the critical areas of focus will be:
Funding and Investment – Securing financial support to boost film production.
Training and Capacity Building – Providing skills enhancement for industry players.
Infrastructure Development – Upgrading studios and technology to meet global standards.
Market Expansion – Exploring international distribution channels for Ghanaian films.

Industry players have hailed the minister’s intervention, expressing optimism that with the right policy direction and government backing, Kumawood can regain its past glory and become a major force in African cinema once again.
