The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Ashanti Region has welcomed a timely financial boost from Fidelity Bank Ghana following the bank’s donation of GH¢50,000 towards the construction of a regional press centre for journalists.

The cheque was presented on Thursday, February 5, 2026, during a one-day financial sector training programme organised by Fidelity Bank for journalists at the Lancaster Kumasi Hotel. The training formed part of the bank’s broader efforts to enhance financial literacy and strengthen engagement between the media and the banking industry.

Presenting the cheque, the  Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Mr. Julian Opuni, said the donation was in response to a formal request from the GJA and reflected the bank’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote professional journalism and national development. He noted that journalists play a critical role in educating the public on financial matters and holding institutions accountable.

“We received a request from the Ghana Journalists Association, and as part of our commitment to supporting the media, Fidelity Bank is donating GH¢50,000 to support the Ashanti Regional Press Centre project,” Mr. Opuni stated. “We value the work and support of journalists not only in the Ashanti Region but across the country.”

Mr. Opuni added that Fidelity Bank would continue to partner the media through capacity-building programmes and initiatives that encourage accurate, ethical, and responsible reporting, particularly within the financial sector.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the association, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GJA, Mr. Kofi Adu Domfe, expressed profound gratitude to Fidelity Bank for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention. He explained that while the association had made steady progress on the press centre project, financing remained a major challenge.

“We have been working towards the construction of a press centre for journalists in the Ashanti Region, and one of our main challenges has been funding,” Mr. Domfe said. “This support from Fidelity Bank has come at the ideal time, and we are sincerely grateful for the bank’s responsiveness.”

Mr. Domfe assured that the funds would be used judiciously to advance the project and appealed to other corporate institutions, organisations, and stakeholders to support the initiative to ensure its successful completion.

The proposed Ashanti Regional Press Centre is expected to serve as a professional hub for journalists, providing office space, training facilities, and a platform for collaboration, media development, and stakeholder engagement in the region.
