GJA Assures Judicious Use of Funds as Fidelity Bank Supports Press Centre Project

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Ashanti Region has assured stakeholders of the careful and judicious use of funds following a GH¢50,000 donation from Fidelity Bank Ghana to support the construction of a regional press centre for journalists.
The cheque was presented on Thursday, February 5, 2026, during a one-day financial sector training programme organised by Fidelity Bank at the Lancaster Kumasi Hotel. The programme formed part of the bank’s efforts to enhance financial literacy among journalists and deepen engagement between the media and the banking sector.

Presenting the cheque, the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Mr. Julian Opuni, said the donation was made in response to a formal request from the GJA and reflected the bank’s commitment to promoting professional journalism and supporting media development initiatives. He emphasized the pivotal role journalists play in informing the public, promoting transparency, and ensuring accountability, particularly in matters relating to finance and national development.
“We received a request from the Ghana Journalists Association, and as part of our commitment to supporting the media, Fidelity Bank is donating GH¢50,000 to support the Ashanti Regional Press Centre project,” Mr. Opuni stated. “Journalists are key partners in national development, and supporting their professional growth is essential.”

He added that Fidelity Bank would continue to work with the media through programmes that enhance accurate, ethical, and responsible reporting, particularly in the financial sector.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the association, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GJA, Mr. Kofi Adu Domfe, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Fidelity Bank for the timely intervention. He noted that while the press centre project had made steady progress, financing remained a significant challenge.

“This support from Fidelity Bank comes at a crucial time,” Mr. Domfe said. “We have been working diligently to establish a press centre for journalists in the Ashanti Region, and the challenge of funding has been a major hurdle. With this contribution, we are now able to accelerate the project.”
Mr. Domfe assured that the funds would be used judiciously and efficiently to advance the press centre project. He also appealed to other corporate institutions, organisations, and development partners to support the initiative to ensure its successful completion.
The proposed Ashanti Regional Press Centre is expected to serve as a professional hub for journalists, providing office space, training facilities, and a platform for collaboration, media development, and engagement with stakeholders in the region.
