Ashanti Regional GJA Executives Embark on Media House Tour to Strengthen Membership Drive

As part of efforts to rekindle unity and enhance the professional development of journalists in the Ashanti Region, the newly elected executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Ashanti Regional Branch, have embarked on a tour of selected media houses in Kumasi.

The exercise forms part of a broader membership drive initiative aimed at engaging media practitioners, strengthening collaboration, and encouraging journalists across the region to register and actively participate in the activities of the Association.

Led by the Regional Chairman, Mr. Kofi Adu Domfeh, the team paid working visits to some prominent media establishments including Abusua FM (EIB Network), Pure FM, and Akoma FM, where they held extensive discussions with management and staff on the current state of journalism and the future of the Association.

At the EIB Network, the delegation was warmly received by Mr. Kojo Marfo, a seasoned journalist and Programs Manager for Abusua FM. The engagement centered on strategies to build a stronger and more united front for journalists in the region. Mr. Domfeh outlined a series of initiatives being rolled out by the new executives, including capacity-building workshops, refresher training programs, and professional development sessions to equip members with modern journalism skills and ethics.

Mr. Kojo Marfo, in his remarks, commended the new leadership for taking such a proactive step, describing it as timely and essential in strengthening the journalism fraternity in the region. He underscored the need for a formidable and vibrant GJA that will serve as a mentoring platform for emerging journalists while ensuring senior practitioners continue to provide guidance and leadership.

He further called for the unionization of the Association, noting that this will enable the GJA to advocate effectively for improved working conditions, fair remuneration, and the overall welfare of journalists in Ghana.

The Ashanti Regional GJA team also visited Pure FM, where they interacted with management, including Mr. Kwame Adinkrah, the station’s morning show host and a highly respected figure in the industry. Mr. Adinkrah pledged the station’s full support to the GJA’s membership drive and encouraged journalists to unite under the Association to protect the integrity of the profession.

The final stop of the tour was at Akoma FM, where the delegation met with the Head of Station, Mr. Ransford Nana Osei Asare. He expressed delight at the renewed energy and vision demonstrated by the new GJA leadership, emphasizing the need for continuous training and professional development to keep journalists abreast of evolving trends in the media landscape.

Mr. Kofi Adu Domfeh, during his interactions with the managers of the various media outlets, appealed to them to encourage journalists in their organizations to register as members of the Association, stressing that a united and active GJA is crucial in advancing the interests of media practitioners and defending press freedom in Ghana.

He reiterated the Association’s commitment to creating a more inclusive platform where the welfare of journalists remains a top priority and where professionalism and ethical standards are upheld across all media fronts.

Accompanying the Regional Chairman on the media house tour was the Regional Secretary, Ms. Beatrice Spio-Garbrah, who expressed appreciation to the management and staff of the visited stations for their warm reception and pledges of support.

The Ashanti Regional GJA executives are expected to continue their engagement with other media houses in the coming weeks as part of their comprehensive effort to revitalize the Association, strengthen member participation, and promote excellence in journalism across the region.
