The Ashanti Region has recorded yet another tragic road accident following a fatal crash at Offinso Old Town that claimed the lives of two people and left two others injured.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, January 12, 2026, and involved a private saloon car, a trailer with registration number GR-1357-W, and a mini truck loaded with building materials. According to eyewitnesses, the collision resulted in a fire outbreak that quickly engulfed the saloon car, trapping its occupants.

The deceased, a male driver and a female passenger, were burnt to death at the scene. The woman was identified as a building materials trader who was traveling from Kumasi to Offinso to supply goods when the accident occurred. Residents who rushed to the scene said the fire spread rapidly, making rescue efforts impossible.
The impact of the crash caused panic among residents and early-morning commuters, with thick smoke rising from the burning vehicle. Fire personnel arrived later to bring the situation under control, but the victims had already lost their lives.

The bodies of the deceased have since been conveyed to the hospital morgue for preservation and further investigation. Meanwhile, the trailer driver and his mate, who sustained injuries in the crash, are receiving medical treatment at a nearby health facility and are reported to be responding well to treatment.

Police officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) have taken over the scene and commenced investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident. Authorities have once again urged motorists to observe traffic regulations, avoid excessive speed, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy to help curb the increasing number of road accidents in the region.

The tragic incident has renewed concerns about road safety on the Kumasi–Offinso stretch, with residents calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent further loss of lives.
