A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth organizers in the Ashanti Region have attributed the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections to the actions and conduct of the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, accusing him of sabotage and poor leadership behavior that weakened the party’s campaign efforts.

Speaking at a press conference in Kumasi, the youth organizers dismissed claims that the party’s flagbearer and former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was responsible for the NPP’s electoral loss. They described such assertions as false, politically motivated, and an attempt to shift blame from the true causes of the party’s failure.
According to the youth leaders, Dr. Bawumia displayed unwavering dedication and loyalty to the NPP throughout the campaign period. They praised his hard work, humility, and innovative leadership style, insisting that he did everything within his power to secure victory for the party, despite facing internal resistance from certain senior members.
The youth alleged that Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s conduct, particularly his alleged involvement in hoarding fertilizers meant for farmers under the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs initiative and the acquisition of state assets for personal benefit, contributed to growing public resentment against the NPP government. They argued that these actions painted the party as disconnected from the ordinary Ghanaian, ultimately costing it the trust and confidence of voters in key constituencies.

The Tafo Constituency Youth Organizer, Nana Kwadwo Pipim, who addressed the press, stated that it was unfair for any member of the NPP to lay the blame for the defeat at Dr. Bawumia’s feet. He emphasized that the party’s downfall was the result of poor attitudes, internal divisions, and selfish interests exhibited by some high-ranking officials rather than the flagbearer’s leadership.
Nana Pipim explained that Dr. Bawumia ran an honest and visionary campaign that appealed to both young and old Ghanaians, but his efforts were undermined by individuals within the party who failed to support his mission wholeheartedly. He said the 2024 election defeat should serve as a wake-up call for the NPP to confront its internal weaknesses and rebuild its unity ahead of the 2028 elections.

He further stressed that the youth in the Ashanti Region remain confident in Dr. Bawumia’s ability to restore the NPP’s credibility and lead it back to victory in 2028. He described the former Vice President as a forward-thinking leader who understands the challenges of modern governance and is capable of connecting the party’s vision to the aspirations of the Ghanaian youth.

The youth organizers called on the party’s national executives to take bold steps to address internal discontent, ensure accountability among leaders, and realign the NPP’s focus with the needs of its grassroots supporters. They urged all members to rally behind Dr. Bawumia as the symbol of hope, renewal, and transformation for the party’s comeback.
They also appealed to party members across the country to remain united, disciplined, and committed to rebuilding the NPP from the ground up. According to them, the only way forward is through unity, transparency, and genuine collaboration among all stakeholders.
Concluding the press engagement, the Ashanti Region NPP youth reaffirmed their unwavering support for Dr. Bawumia and pledged to work tirelessly to ensure his success in future political contests. They noted that his humility, intelligence, and innovative approach to leadership make him the ideal figure to lead the NPP’s revival and reclaim power in the 2028 general elections.
