Atwima Kwanwoma DCE Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah Presents 9,000 Palm Seedlings to 400 Farmers

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Kwanwoma, Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has presented 9,000 palm tree seedlings to farmers across the district in a major effort to boost agricultural production and improve rural livelihoods. The initiative forms part of the government’s Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) programme, which seeks to promote cash crop cultivation for both local consumption and export.

A total of 400 farmers benefited from the gesture, comprising 100 women and 300 men from various communities within the district. The seedlings were distributed according to each farmer’s capacity, with the aim of ensuring proper planting, care, and high survival rates.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah stressed that oil palm cultivation has the potential to transform the district’s economy by creating sustainable jobs and generating multiple streams of income. She pointed out that beyond palm oil production, by-products such as palm kernel oil, soap, and animal feed could be leveraged to provide additional economic opportunities for farmers.

“This distribution is not just about planting trees; it is about planting opportunities, income, and a brighter future for our farming communities,” she said. She further assured farmers that the Department of Agriculture would continue to provide technical guidance and regular monitoring to support their success.

The District Director of Agriculture, Madam Afia Asenso Owusu Ansah, commended the DCE for her unwavering commitment to agricultural development. She encouraged the farmers to take good care of the seedlings and make the most of the opportunity to expand their farms. She also pledged her department’s support through follow-up visits and training sessions to ensure that best practices are applied in oil palm cultivation.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Grace Agyemang Asamoah and the Assembly for what they described as a timely and impactful intervention. They were confident that the project would not only increase their incomes but also create jobs and help position Atwima Kwanwoma as a leading contributor to oil palm production in the Ashanti Region.

The distribution of the 9,000 palm tree seedlings stands as another milestone in Atwima Kwanwoma District’s commitment to sustainable agriculture, economic growth, and rural empowerment.
