Amansie West DCE Engages GoldBOD Executives on Transformational Community Projects

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie West, Hon. Prince M. Manu, has held a strategic development engagement with executives of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBOD) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships that drive sustainable growth in mining districts. The meeting, held at the Amansie West District Assembly, highlighted renewed commitment from both sides to ensure that mining communities benefit directly from national mineral revenue and corporate social responsibility interventions.

During the courtesy call, the GoldBOD leadership presented three major community development project options to the Assembly for consideration under its social responsibility initiative. These proposed interventions include a state-of-the-art district hospital, a comprehensive water and sanitation improvement programme, and a modern educational facility designed to uplift the standard of teaching and learning across the district.

The hospital project, if selected, is expected to significantly improve healthcare access for residents who currently travel long distances to seek specialised medical attention. With maternal health, emergency care, and child welfare being key concerns in the district, the proposed facility promises to reduce pressure on neighbouring health centres and deliver critical medical services closer to the community.

The water and sanitation project option seeks to address the deep-seated challenge of inadequate clean drinking water and poor sanitation infrastructure that affects several communities within Amansie West. GoldBOD’s proposal outlines an integrated system of potable water supply, borehole rehabilitation, and improved sanitation facilities to curb waterborne diseases and promote healthy living.

The educational facility alternative is designed to provide a modern, well-equipped learning environment for both teachers and students. It includes provisions for ICT laboratories, spacious classrooms, improved staff accommodation, and learning support spaces, aimed at raising academic performance and reducing infrastructural deficits within the district’s educational sector.

Hon. Prince M. Manu expressed his profound appreciation to GoldBOD for the thoughtful initiative and emphasised the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving meaningful development. He noted that the Assembly would undertake a comprehensive review of the three proposals to determine which option aligns most effectively with the district’s urgent developmental needs, stressing that the final decision would prioritise long-term impact and community welfare.

Community members and leaders who were apprised of the visit have commended GoldBOD for its proactive approach to supporting mining communities. Many expressed optimism that whichever project is approved will significantly improve livelihoods, stimulate local development, and contribute to solving long-standing infrastructural challenges.

GoldBOD executives reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to responsible mining practices and community support, stating that the initiative reflects their broader mission to ensure that mineral-producing districts experience equitable development. They described the engagement with Amansie West as a key step in strengthening collaborations that transform mining revenues into visible improvements in the lives of local people.

The meeting concluded on a promising note, with both the Assembly and GoldBOD expressing enthusiasm about the forthcoming development project. The final selection, expected after internal district consultations, will lay the foundation for a transformative intervention with lasting social and economic impact on the people of Amansie West.
