Akwatia By-election: NDC Will Win the Seat — Popular Election Prophet Predicts

The upcoming Akwatia parliamentary by-election is generating intense political interest, with a popular Ghanaian prophet forecasting a clear victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Prophet Samuel Henry, widely known as Prophet Roja, has confidently predicted that the NDC will clinch the Akwatia seat in the by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025. His declaration comes amid a growing political contest between the two dominant parties in Ghana — the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The by-election was necessitated by the unfortunate death of the sitting Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Mr. Ernest Yaw Kumi, who passed away on July 7, 2025, after falling ill and being admitted to hospital. His sudden demise has left the constituency in need of new representation in Parliament.

Following the vacancy, both major parties swiftly nominated candidates to contest the by-election. The NPP has chosen Mr. Solomon Kwame Asumadu, a business executive and CEO of Owuo Mining Company, as their parliamentary candidate. The NDC, on the other hand, has selected Lawyer Bernard Bediako Baidoo to represent their interests in the race.

In a recent interview ahead of the election, Prophet Roja shared his views on the likely outcome of the poll. “NDC will win the seat. Yeah, I’m asking the NPP to do something if they don’t, NDC will win the elections hands down,” he stated emphatically. He also noted that neither political party had reached out to him for guidance or prayers, underscoring his neutrality.

The by-election holds significant political implications for both parties. A win for the NDC would increase their parliamentary strength, while the NPP aims to retain control of the seat to consolidate its position in the region. Residents of Akwatia and political observers across the country will be watching closely as the campaign intensifies.

The Akwatia by-election is not only a contest of political strength but also a test of grassroots support and campaign strategy in a constituency still mourning the loss of its former MP. As election day approaches, all eyes remain on the candidates, their parties, and the final decision of the voters.
