Narrowlite CEO Urges President Mahama to Take Bold Action Against Galamsey to Protect His Legacy

Mr Samuel Kwame Adomako, Chief Executive Officer of Narrowlite International Company Limited, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take urgent and decisive steps to combat the growing menace of illegal mining, known locally as galamsey.

In a recent interview, Mr. Adomako warned that failure to tackle galamsey would have severe political, environmental, and economic consequences for Ghana. He stressed that Ghanaians care deeply about environmental protection and good governance, and the current administration must not repeat the perceived inaction of past governments.

“The past government didn’t care, so don’t say Ghanaians don’t care about your administration,” he said. “President Mahama has only one term and must seize this opportunity to build a legacy, especially in honour of the late Major Mahama and the eight government officials who recently died in the helicopter crash.”

Mr. Adomako described galamsey as a national crisis that has devastated forests, farmlands, and polluted major rivers with toxic chemicals such as mercury and cyanide, endangering public health and livelihoods.

He urged the government to prioritize environmental protection over political interests, enforce stricter mining regulations, clamp down on corruption in the mining sector, and provide sustainable alternative livelihoods for those engaged in illegal mining.

“The stakes are high,” he said, “not only for the environment but also for the political fortunes of the ruling party.”

The call echoes growing public demand for intensified government action against galamsey, an issue threatening Ghana’s environment and future.
