A/R: Nsutam Presby Primary School cries for help over 80-year-old dilapidated classroom block

The authorities of Nsutam Presby Primary School in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region have made an urgent appeal to the government for a new classroom block to replace their current, deteriorating structure.

The only public basic school in the community, the building is said to be over 80 years old, with its worn-out roof contributing to unbearable conditions during both dry and rainy seasons.

The head teacher of the school, Mr. Amos Berko, described the current situation as “dire”, pointing out that “the excessive heat during sunny days makes teaching and learning difficult, affecting the concentration and performance of pupils.”

He noted that the condition of the classroom block does not only hinder academic work but also compromises the comfort and safety of both students and teachers.

Mr. Berko emphasized that the rainy season presents an even greater challenge, as water leaks into classrooms, forcing pupils to huddle in dry corners or leave school entirely on heavy rain days.

He fears that the weakened structure could eventually collapse, potentially endangering lives.

Mr. Amos Berko made the appeal during a presentation of one hundred school bags to the pupils of Nsutam Presby Primary School on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

“I am therefore appealing for immediate government intervention through the construction of a new modern classroom block to replace the existing eighty-year-old one,” Mr Berko emphasized.

Beyond the classroom infrastructure, Mr. Berko also highlighted other pressing needs of the school.

He called for the provision of ICT equipment to enhance digital literacy, a security fence wall to protect school property, and a toilet facility to improve hygiene and sanitation conditions for the pupils.

The Chief of Effiduase Nsutam, Nana Kwaku Agyei Dwumah II, shared the school authorities’ concerns, revealing that the existing classroom block has become weak, unsafe, and unsuitable for teaching and learning.

He expressed grave concern about the poor state of the school’s infrastructure and urged the government to take immediate action.

The appeal highlights the need for urgent attention to the school’s infrastructure to ensure a conducive environment for quality education.

“With the current state of the classroom block, the school’s ability to provide quality education is severely compromised, putting the future of the pupils at risk,” Nana Kwaku Agyei Dwumah II posited.
