As part of his commitment to make Kumasi one of the cleanest city in Africa and Ghana as a whole the Hardworking mayor of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Hon. Samuel Pyne has today inaugurated Ten member task force of metro guards aiming to assist the urban transport department.
The exercise which was inaugurated today is also expected to clamp down on all the Unauthorized Transport Operators to ease congestion in the metropolis.
The issue of traffic congestion is one of the biggest challenges affecting the development of the city and this is the time for the stakeholders of the metropolis to clamp down the whip.
Addressing the task force in a short ceremony the mayor of Kumasi Hon. Samuel Pyne stated that the exercise is expected to take place at exactly 6 am and anyone who will be defaulted will be arrested and arrange before the court of jurisdiction.
He said the recent congestion within the metropolis is very alarming and we cannot sit down for any individuals neither any organization to pulverized the city for us we need to come together to make Kumasi great and strong and the only way to fight this mess is to come out with this taskforce who are poised to do their work without any favouritesm.
He said the by-laws of the assembly disallow any Unauthorized transport operators to offload in the Central Business district but some drivers became adamant to this bylaws so this special Task Force will also deal with these drivers. He opined that Mr. Randy Wilson who is the head of Task Force will make sure all the illegal transport who are causing major traffic will not be allow to enter the inner city why those with legal permit who are mandated to operate within the central business district will follow the by-laws of the metropolis.
He stated even transport operators who are legitimate to operate within the inner city of Kumasi are not expected to bring in more than three cars in order not to cause any traffic.
Meanwhile the Leader of the ten member taskforce Mr. Randy Wilson who spoke on behalf of the taskforce commended the mayor of the city Hon. Samuel Pyne for his contributions in ensuring that the city will go back to it previous name as the garden City of Africa.
He said the task force is going to work with the Ghana Police service in order to arrest and prosecute anyone will will go contrary to the law.
