A historic moment unfolded at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on Thursday, September 25, 2025, as the Assembly celebrated the retirement of its long-serving Chief Metro Guard, Madam Janet Amoh, after an illustrious 41 years of dedicated service.
The colourful welfare ceremony, which attracted dignitaries, staff, security officers, assembly members, and members of the public, highlighted not only her decades of selfless contribution but also the enduring legacy she leaves behind.
Guard of Honour and Mayor’s Tribute
The event commenced around 10:45 a.m. with a guard of honour mounted by the metro guards under the command of Sergeant Frederick Amaoko Mensah. The procession was inspected by the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, alongside the outgoing Chief Metro Guard and her successor, Madam Joyce Nakey, who was also promoted on the day.

In his address, the Mayor eulogised Madam Amoh’s long-standing commitment, describing her as an icon of discipline, resilience, and loyalty. He lauded her 41 years of unbroken service to the Assembly and the city of Kumasi, stressing that her dedication was “no less than an achievement worthy of the highest commendation.”
According to the Mayor, the Assembly would continue to rely on her wealth of knowledge and rich experience to address emerging challenges in the operations of metro guards. He also urged her successor, Madam Nakey, to emulate the shining example of Madam Amoh, while carrying forward the enviable legacy she inherits.
Honouring Service Through Promotions
The occasion was further marked by the promotion of ten metro guard personnel in recognition of their meritorious service. Senior Metro Guard Theresah A. Adutwumwaa was elevated to the rank of Sergeant.
Nine other officers were promoted from Constable to Senior Metro Guard, namely: Saawone Ali, Lord Asafo Adjei, Isaac Owusu Darkwa, Kwaku Gyamina, Alex Kwame Antwi, Bright Amaniamponf Adjei, Francis Tawiah, Ahenkan Boadi Eric, and Ampong Emmanuel.
The promotions were met with applause, underscoring the Assembly’s commitment to rewarding dedication and service excellence.
Emotional Pulling-Out Ceremony
One of the highlights of the day was the emotional pulling-out parade for the retiring Chief Metro Guard. Supported by the Armed Forces School Brass Band, the metro guard contingent marched in step, honouring Madam Amoh in a symbolic farewell that drew tears and admiration from onlookers.

The procession marked the end of a remarkable chapter in her career and etched her name permanently into the proud history of the KMA.
Retirement Party and Well-Wishes
Following the official ceremony, a retirement party was held at the CLOGSAG Hall under the supervision of Mrs. Grace Omare Sasu, Metro Head of Human Resources Management. The event was attended by staff, traders, clergy, transport operators, security officers, family members, and friends who came together to celebrate her life’s work.
Speakers at the event showered tributes on the outgoing Chief Metro Guard, praising her humility, courage, and leadership style that inspired both colleagues and subordinates.

In her farewell address, Madam Janet Amoh expressed profound gratitude to God for sustaining her throughout her four-decade-long service. She extended appreciation to the leadership of KMA, her colleagues, family, and loved ones for their unwavering support.

“I am leaving with a fulfilled heart, grateful for the opportunity to serve my city and my country. I pray my successor receives the same support I was blessed with, so together we can continue to strengthen the work of the metro guards,” she said.
