The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on Thursday, September 25, 2025, held a historic and colourful ceremony to honour the retirement of its long-serving Chief Metro Guard, Madam Janet Amoh, after an extraordinary 41 years of service to the Assembly and the city of Kumasi.
The event, filled with emotional tributes, promotions, and a befitting farewell party, drew together assembly officials, security personnel, clergy, transport operators, traders, and family members, who converged to celebrate her remarkable legacy of dedication and service.
Guard of Honour and Mayor’s Commendation
The ceremony commenced at 10:45 a.m. with a guard of honour mounted by the metro guards under the command of Sergeant Frederick Amaoko Mensah. The procession, accompanied by the Armed Forces School Brass Band, was inspected by the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, together with the retiring Chief Metro Guard and the newly promoted Metro Guard, Madam Joyce Nakey.
In his tribute, the Mayor lauded Madam Amoh for her unparalleled commitment, resilience, and discipline throughout her career. He described her 41 years of service as “a true achievement, unmatched in loyalty and excellence.”
He further noted that although she was retiring from active duty, the Assembly would continue to draw on her experience and wisdom to tackle emerging challenges in the operations of the metro guard service. The Mayor also encouraged Madam Nakey, her successor, to emulate her predecessor’s diligence and uphold the legacy being entrusted to her.
Recognition Through Promotions
The ceremony also highlighted the Assembly’s commitment to rewarding dedicated service, with the promotion of 10 officers.
Senior Metro Guard Theresah A. Adutwumwaa was elevated to the rank of Sergeant, while nine constables — Saawone Ali, Lord Asafo Adjei, Isaac Owusu Darkwa, Kwaku Gyamina, Alex Kwame Antwi, Bright Amaniamponf Adjei, Francis Tawiah, Ahenkan Boadi Eric, and Ampong Emmanuel — were promoted to Senior Metro Guards.
These promotions were met with resounding applause, signifying the Assembly’s recognition of hard work and merit.
Emotional Pulling-Out Ceremony
A key highlight of the day was the emotional pulling-out parade held in honour of the outgoing Chief Metro Guard. With the brass band providing solemn tunes, Madam Amoh was ceremonially escorted out by the metro guard contingent, marking the end of an era and cementing her name in the proud history of the KMA.
The atmosphere was charged with both celebration and nostalgia, as colleagues and attendees paid their last respects to her decades of distinguished service.
Retirement Party and Well-Wishes
Later in the afternoon, the celebrations shifted to the CLOGSAG Hall, where a befitting retirement party was organised under the supervision of Mrs. Grace Omare Sasu, Metro Head of Human Resources Management.

The gathering was graced by staff, assembly members, religious leaders, security officers, market women, transport operators, family members, and friends. Speeches, songs, and prayers highlighted the depth of appreciation for Madam Amoh’s leadership and character.
Gratitude from the Retiree
In her heartfelt farewell remarks, Madam Amoh expressed profound gratitude to God for guiding her throughout her career. She thanked the leadership of KMA, her colleagues, family, and loved ones for their support and encouragement.
She also urged the Assembly, the public, and all stakeholders to extend the same level of cooperation and goodwill to her successor, as she enjoyed during her tenure.
“I leave fulfilled, grateful for the chance to serve Kumasi with all my strength. My prayer is that my successor will receive the same support I was blessed with. Together, we must continue to uphold the values of discipline and service to the people,” she stated.
A Legacy That Endures
As Madam Janet Amoh bows out after 41 years, her name will forever be associated with loyalty, resilience, and an unshakable devotion to duty. The Assembly and the city of Kumasi bid farewell not only to a leader but also to a role model whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations of metro guards.
Her retirement is more than the close of a chapter — it is the celebration of a life of service, marked with honour, respect, and a legacy that will stand the test of time.
