A devastating road accident at Dichemso Plaza in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, has left residents in shock after a commercial Urvan bus carrying nursing students collided with a school bus.

The Urvan bus, registered AS-9840-10, was transporting 15 nursing students when it crashed violently into a school bus with registration number GS-3743-22. Fortunately, the school bus was empty at the time of the accident, preventing an even deadlier tragedy.

Eyewitnesses described the impact as terrifying, with several passengers trapped in the wreckage. One of the students had a leg severed, while three others were left unconscious. In total, four students remain in critical condition and are battling for their lives in hospital.

“The scene was horrific. We saw people screaming and bleeding. Some good Samaritans rushed to help before the ambulance and police arrived,” a bystander recounted.

Emergency services responded swiftly, transporting all victims to nearby health facilities. Medical teams have confirmed that the critically injured students are receiving intensive care, while others with minor injuries are in stable condition.

Police officers who arrived at the scene controlled traffic, cleared the accident zone, and began investigations. Although the exact cause of the collision has not yet been determined, overspeeding and reckless driving are being considered as possible factors. Authorities have promised a full inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The accident has renewed concerns about road safety in Kumasi and other urban centers, where accidents frequently cause deaths and long-term injuries. Residents who witnessed the crash have urged commercial drivers to exercise caution and called on transport authorities to enforce stricter regulations to protect passengers.

As families and colleagues of the nursing students anxiously wait for positive news, the Dichemso Plaza accident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for vigilance and responsibility on Ghana’s roads.
